Female Genital Surgery (Labiaplasty)

In many cases the decision to have genital surgery is not only based on functional issues but also on the growing awareness of female genital aesthetics owing to increased media attention. Many women may feel self-conscious about the appearance of their labia majora (outer lips) or, more commonly, labia minora (inner lips).

Mostly a labia with the labia majora covering the labia minora completely is the desired result.

Depending on the individual finding and the patient wishes the inner or outer lips can be surgically reduced. Another procedure is the rebuilding of the labia majora by injecting autologous fat. The autologous fat has to be obtained from another part of the body and rehashed at first. Alternatively we can also inject hyaluronic acid. When surgery of both the labia minora and labia majora is required it is recommended to perform two separate surgeries to reduce the risk of delayed wound healing and other possible complications.

The surgery takes about 1,5 to 2,5 hours. Usually the procedure is done outpatient in local anaesthesia with an analogue sedation. If required the procedure can be done in general anaesthesia.

Due to the self dissolving materials there are no stitches to remove.Physical activities as jogging, cycling, swimming, horseback riding or sexual intercourse should be avoided for about six weeks after the surgery.
